Soft, elegant and meaningful

A soft baby blanket for your little one? The baby blankets are made of super soft alpaca wool and are suitable for winter as well as summer. Alpaca wool is three times warmer than ordinary wool and because the fiber is hollow the blanket feels warm when it is cold and cool when it is warm. The blanket is elastic and it is easy to wrap around a little child, or yourself even. The blankets come in different colors: vanilla, pale lavender, rose, wolf grey, sand and chocolate. The blankets are handmade by Malawian women and are of good quality.

 

The Baylor women

The Baylor women are a self organized mother group at the Baylor clinic in Malawi. They are mothers or close relatives of youth living with HIV and AIDS. Every month they meet at teen club at the Baylor clinic. One of the aims for the mother group has been to find an income generating activity in order to support their children. That is why Fiola and Baylor have started cooperating. With the salary the women get from the blankets they are able to support themselves and their children. Some of the women are already doing very well and meet every Thursday for perfecting their crocheting, for delivering blankets and collecting payment. One hundred percent of the profits go to the women

 

About Fiola

Fiola Fairrari’s aim is to create income opportunities for families in developing countries like Malawi. There is a lot of craft work that is sold to tourists on the markets in countries like Malawi as well as in Western countries. We buy the products like souvenirs or in order to support a good cause. Though such hand craft might be good cultural intermediary, the potential target group of such products is small and not many are able to support themselves by activity of this kind. The main idea of this project is to start businesses that make hand crafts which have a greater and more sustainable market, products that can be sold to a larger group of people in Western countries.
